As a quality management software organization, we found the recent notion of 10,000 hours experience and practice requirement outlined in the 2011 Malcolm Gladwell book interesting. In his book, "Outliers", Gladwell demonstrates this point by delving into the backgrounds of remarkable people (such as Bill Gates and the Beatles, to name a few) by focusing on the circumstances surrounding their success. In his analysis, he determined that no one who succeeds does so without 10,000 hours of practice.

Manufacturers improve shop floor quality control by consistently monitoring their production processes and eliminating factors that can damage product quality. But identifying and documenting defects can be a challenging, time-consuming process. Quality managers often feel caught between a desire to take proactive measures against factors impacting production, and budgetary and time constraints that prevent them from performing statistical process control.
